SCCNEPAL offers Volunteering opportunities in orphanage homes of Nepal. To become the part of poor abandoned kids, where you can make positive impacts to change the lives of these innocent stars on earth is itself the noblest act one can do. It is an enriching and satisfying experience where volunteers get the opportunity to teach students who are eager to improve their academic and practical skills in multinational environment. Time and tide waits none and the way technical development of the world is going on, students of the generation value their education and are motivated to be taught new things about the world.
The volunteering program consists of teaching the curriculum subjects like English, Math Science and health to school children for few classes of a day, with each class running for 45 minutes. Volunteers will be required to teach 6 days a week. Saturday is a day off for volunteers to enjoy some free time and there are occasionally public holidays.
First week, a local teacher will assist you to conduct the classes and address any language barriers or concerns if it appears during teaching. You will be asked to run the class once the children become familiar with you. Volunteers shouldn’t be concerned about what to teach, as all private and government schools follow a Nepali curriculum which can be implicated in teaching. However, if one is confident enough, volunteers are more than welcome to apply their own teaching blueprint. If you have additional skills in extra-curricular activities like games, music, painting, singing dancing, yoga, martial arts etc. then you are most welcome to incorporate this into the teaching program.
As a volunteer you will be Teaching and tutoring children in English and Math, developing a creative environment for children through crafts, games and sports, Assisting with creating low-cost teaching materials, Sharing teaching methodology with local school teachers and Program Requirements
Volunteers must be Willing to work with children, At least 16 years or older at the start of the program, Have an open mind and flexible attitude towards working in new and different environments and be prepared to do some manual work in their placement. All volunteers are provided with an orientation covering topics such as safety and security, transportation, Basic Nepali language, Nepali local culture before you begin your volunteer work in orphan child home
Simple accommodation will be provided while undertaking the program. Accommodation options include staying in guest house, with a host family, in a project hostel or a home base, which offers an authentic Nepali family environment. Volunteers are provided with their own room and bathroom which is usually shared with other volunteers, however a private room can be provided by prior arrangement if any orphanage has that facility. Staying with a host family will provide you with a wonderful opportunity to experience the Nepali lifestyle and live with a warm and welcoming family. You will get the chance to learn how to cook traditional Nepali-styled food. While volunteering, our staff will visit you every week. During the visit, we will check on your progress and make sure you’re satisfied and happy.
Volunteers are provided with typical Nepali food twice a day and a mid-day snack sourced from local ingredients. Meals served include rice, curry and vegetables (a traditional Nepali dish known as (Dal-Bhat, Tarkali and Achar). If you are staying with a host family they will provide you what they eat like a local family member.
The project placements are located many places of Nepal and you will be placed according to your interests and chosen program. Locations include Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara, Nawalparasi, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Jumla and Humla. Regardless of where you are placed, you will be staying in the orphanage, or we can arrange a host family on prior indication, which will be within walking distance to the orphanage.
